About

I am a lecturer in the Department of Media Studies at UNC-Greensboro, and have over sixteen years of documentary filmmaking experience. My films typically revolve around an unconventional character on the margins of society, such as a man who started his own country inside of the United States, an immigrant coping with the murder of her husband, and a confrontational itinerant preacher. My latest film Hebo showcases the work of outsider folk artist Sam Ezell.

I frequently collaborate with other filmmakers and have served as a cinematographer and editor for award-winning documentary films. I recently edited a feature-length documentary titled Fred Chappell: I Am One of You Forever in collaboration with Dr. Michael Frierson of UNC-Greensboro. The film chronicles the life and work of NC poet and novelist Fred Chappell.

Apart from teaching and filmmaking, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching soccer (COYS), and fiddling with Aeropress recipes.
